Socially Conscious Coffee® (SCC) is a nonprofit organization that creates sustainable prosperity with coffee harvesters, their families, and their communities through education, health care, and environmental stewardship.
Coffee is the world’s most popular beverage, with more than 400 billion cups of coffee enjoyed each year. Behind all these cups is the largest and poorest group of people in the coffee industry: harvesters and their families. Due to a lack of education, health care, food, and safe drinking water, compounded by environmental degradation, harvesters have continued to face a cycle of illiteracy, poor health, and poverty. SCC created a model that has proven to be very successful in breaking this cycle.
In 2004 SCC built a school and community center, called the Centro Rural Educafé in Portuguese, in Bahia, Brazil. By building a school on a coffee farm, SCC educates the region’s children and provides community education on health and hygiene practices, disease prevention, water and food safety, and environmental stewardship.
Please join our vision to create sustainable prosperity with coffee harvesters, their families, and their communities around the world.
