On May 16, 2010, the friends of Socially Conscious Coffee ran and walked in the Colfax Marathon and raised $10,000 to help to bring education, health care, and opportunity to children in need!
This amount pays for excellent teachers for 55 children at the Socially Conscious Coffee School (named the Centro Rural Educafé) for almost an entire year! Nearly all of the children who attend the Educafé would not be able to attend school regularly without Socially Conscious Coffee, and for the few that could, the quality of education would be so low that most would have remained functionally illiterate year after year. Thanks to the generosity of everyone who sponsored this event, these children will become some of the best educated kids in Brazil. Rather than being chronically malnourished, SCC will provide them with 4 nutritious meals a day, so they can grow up healthy and concentrate on their studies.
